The first few editions of this site were Linux centric with lots of information and tips I will more than likely go down that rabbit hole again at some time however for now I will try not to totally Linux out.

First I must admit I am not a Linux snob I want to be but I am not I still use Windows nearly daily and I use OSX every day. The Linux Snob uses only Linux I could almost do it OK if I were not as lazy and got World of Tanks running with a good frame rate. I have did it before however something updates and then you are back at trying to get a decent frame rate. The Mac use is work related and in a mac shop you use Mac.

A computer is like air conditioning - it becomes useless when you open Windows

So what is wrong with Windows? To tell the truth not that much is wrong with Windows 10 and 7 the rest of the windows family is either EOLed or a terrible mess Windows 8 is dam near unusable until you kill off the “Metro” interface and add back the features and function previously available in earlier additions Christ sake the first time most people used it a majority of users couldn’t turn off their computers. Microsoft’s continuing to change the basic GUI of their operating systems and other applications is frustrating sensible menus give way ro ribbons, a familiar desktop environment to a tiled Metro environment that changed your desktop into a windows phone. And phone is something Microsoft has a bad track record with. Microsoft just seems to have a disconnect with their users. Now they serve ads in Windows not a web browser this is a OS and it serves ads.  The real issue with Microsoft is their need to monetize everything without regards to the effect that this will have on user experience and usability.

If one must run Windows here is the only way to make it bearable:

Operating System: Windows 7 Pro or Windows 10 Pro If you do not have one of these two and you have to run Windows get one.

User account setup:

Admin: Create an admin account do not use a Microsoft ID on this or any other windows user account.

User: This Is a standard account without privileges to install software or make any real changes to the computer’s settings or software. This will be your user account.

Turn off everything you can except for updates (set to download and prompt for install) and turn on AV updated I use security Essentials Microsoft free product. Th3 whole AV thing on windows leaves me feeling funny many are a huge drain in systems, several have the specter of Russian intelligence hanging over them. All this makes one think that you want to go with a product created by a stable even keeled person like John McAfee.

More and more computer usage is turning away from production to entertainment and we can use entertainment loosely. As people move from the desktop to mobile devices as their primary computer content consumption increases and productivity in all fields decreases. This is a pattern that has been evident from the beginning of the consumer computer, that given this great tool that we will use it for totally frivolous entertainment. This has always been a part of personal computer use. When I was first studying for the A+ I was distracted by Call of Duty (when it was set in WWII the first time) and a bunch of off topic crap. In those days the reason for the computer or the wife reason that being the reason you tell your wife, husband, father of whoever you feel the need to justify with was to do work. (K the Call of Duty was in the same shopping bag ad Office but it was a work or production computer. Now Gaming is driving sales of hardware to the tune of $32 billion a year, providing the best revenue stream for desktop manufactures as cost considerations continue to shrink their prophets in the business arena.

To add to the usage shift seen in traditional computing the shift to mobile based computing by a majority of the population further shifts us from content creation and production to content consumption and recreational computing. Mobile computing is not the drain on productive computing hours as first foreseen little actual content creation of productivity work is happening on phones and tablets.  The mobile device is extremely useful in completing task and keeping informed but lacks the resources for true production work. For example I need to enable a lot of people to inventory a lot of items so I write an app to link to my inventory database and using barcode scanner software and my app all my field workers can do their inventory with their phone by “Scanning” barcodes. Here the handheld is used as a tool of the process not a development to the program was more likely than not to have been written on a traditional desktop or laptop. The average person is far more likely to be the one doing the scanning and not the coding. The work being done on a majority of computer systems in not technology it is more “mundane” everyday task that automation and computers excel at.

A superficial observation would see this as a egalitarian movement in computing others see it as a rift between producers and consumers, in truth it is a sign that computing is maturing and beginning to look like the user curve for other predominate breakthroughs and technology. This means as less and less work is done on the tool or service as it becomes mature to the point of becoming a tool accessible by the average person in their everyday work or life.

Is the digital equivalent to “Get the fuck off my lawn” the cry of the curmudgeon

lost in time. Still as far as computing goes,  it is sound and great advise.

The rise of the device has changed both computing and the Internet and not for

the good. These negative repercussions have ran through society just like

two pounds of cantaloupe through a toddler (a way to piss your sister off 1

nefew and a cantaloupe) The Internet despite all its promise had become a

media delivery platform and because of the great demand product quality has

fallen. Under most models this would cause demand to drop until quality

increases, on the Internet this model is broken. The final part of this spiral to shit

is that there is a large amount of the population that actually likes this shit.

Pull your pants up under your armpits, slap on a new bead of Super Poligrip and

rant.

Today’s rant social media. The largest actual change in society brought on by

social media for a majority of people is the increased risk of automobile and

walking accidents. Yes it is a tool whose scope and potential are unlike anything

ever to hit our culture. The power for unfiltered news and opinion delivered

live as the event unfolds has turned to be the rare exception and not the rule. Who

is to blame?

We are to blame.

Just because there's some level of real or perceived anonymity online many of

us turn into vicious vile trolls. If we do not become trolls we either spew piles of

stale jokes and cute cat gifs or spend all our time re whatevering everything we

agree with or that was posted by someone we like or admire.

The Social Media site is to blame.

All entries have a political agenda or slant, However currently the largest social

media site has taken a qute decided leftist globalist bent and has actively

censored and banned users who express different views while letting those t

hat agree with their founder become rude hateful little trolls.  Managing a site

and user base the size of the popular social media sites do is difficult, you are

going to PO someone and someone will always be complaining  and mad.

The real test is if your management is fair and as non intrusive as possible.

Currently social media closely follows one of the oldest computing rulls .
